Spam & the European Distribution Fund

Tuesday, 07 August 2018

With the myriad of perpetually evolving cyber security threats which threaten businesses in the UK, it is worth noting simple old fashioned spam email is still the cyber criminals’ favourite method of malware implementation. Recent studies have found that click rates have risen in the past year and criminals continue to create new methods of approach to fool even vigilant staff. Action Fraud have recently issued a warning on a new approach called the European Distribution Fraud: criminals register domain names which enable them to create email addresses similar to UK university addresses. They go onto create fraudulent orders for equipment, which they intercept on delivery and of course the supplier never receives payment, leading one victim to lose £350,000. Staff training is a key element in combating this fraud, the majority of attacks being either dating scams, malicious attachments or links to malicious websites.

While training is an important element of a cyber-security strategy, that alone will not protect you from fraud. We always recommend a layered approach to cyber-security to our IT Support customers across Glasgow, Edinburgh and central Scotland. A separate but complimentary suite of products are needed to create a robust defence. Our cloud based spam-filtering service is an important element of this approach and blocks spam before it gets anywhere near your corporate network. Our highly customisable product gives you control and ensures only emails you want arrive in your inbox. You don’t have to worry about losing important emails as the automated spooling and delivery services make sure all emails are accessible.

An increasing number of businesses are victim to malware implementation each year. We can help you increase the security of your business networks and our technical experts can help you identify and implement the products that you need. Why don’t you contact us today to have a chat about how we can help you.
